Weekend Recap: Rays Win Series Against Blades

The Shenzhen KRS Vanke Rays gave their fans something to cheer about this weekend, winning both games against the Worcester Blades.

The Worcester Blades landed in Shenzhen last week and we’re ready to battle it out against the Rays in their three-game series.  On Tuesday, the Rays beat the Blades 6-0 and went on to win the series with a 4-1 win on Friday night, followed by a 10-1 win on Saturday.

Kim Newell was solid in goal on Friday night, allowing only one goal scored by Meghan Grieves. Hanna Bunton, Michelle Ng, Alexandra Carpenter and Cayley Mercer scored against Lauren Dahm to give the Rays their 4-1 victory.  On Saturday, Erin Kickham scored the lone goal for Worcester in the first period while Hannah Miller and Alexandra Carpenter led the way for the Rays, each of them scoring two goals.

This weekend was also the Gold, Silver and Bronze Medal games for the 4 Nations Cup being held in Saskatoon.  Rays players Noora Raty and Venla Hovi represented Finland in the tournament and beat out Sweden to win the Bronze Medal.  Sarah Nurse, Natalie Spooner, Brianne Jenner, Rebecca Johnston, Laura Stacey, Laura Fortino, Jill Saulnier, Mélodie Daoust, Marie- Philip Poulin, Blayre Turnbull, Jamie Lee Rattray, Victoria Bach, Jocelyne Larocque, Renata Fast, Halli Krzyzaniak, Katelyn Gosling, Emerance Maschmeyer and Shea Tiley all representing Canada won the Silver medal.  Hilary Knight, Megan Bozek, Brianne Decker, Alex Rigsby and Kacey Bellamy won Gold for the United States.
