Weekend Recap: CWHL Weekend on Sportsnet

It was the first weekend back after the holidays with the CWHL Weekend airing live on Sportsnet.  The Toronto Furies were in Montreal, the Inferno were in Markham to face the Thunder and Shenzhen made a trip to Worcester to play the Blades.

The first game of the CWHL Weekend on Sportsnet was Toronto versus Montreal.  Both teams were looking to get a win in the first game back, but Poulin and Les Canadiennes were able to route the Furies 3-1. Poulin scored all three goals giving her the hat trick while Prevost scored the lone Furies goal. Sunday, the teams were back in action in Montreal.  Montreal would win 6-3 after goals scored by Knight, Saulnier, Bannon, Emard, Bettez and Poulin (2). Vella, Stewart and Nurse scored the 3 goals for Toronto. Prevost woud get the assist on the goal by Jess Vella, giving Prevost her 100th point in the CWHL.

Meanwhile, the Inferno were in Markham to take on the Thunder. Saturday night, the teams would battle it out into OT where Bellamy would score the winning goal for the Inferno.  Sunday, the Thunder and Inferno were on Sportsnet where the Thunder looked to rebound back from the loss.  Markham led into the second period until the Inferno took the lead.  Markham would fight hard in the third period but would end up losing 5-4.

The Worcester Blades faced another tough series sweep this weekend against the Shenzhen KRS Vanke Rays.  The Rays beat out the Blades 3-0 on Saturday with goals from Lum, Carpenter and Wong.  Sunday, the Blades hoped to secure their first win of the season but lost to the Rays 7-2.  Goldberg scored both goals for the Blades. The Blades will be back in action on Wednesday to take on the Rays in Worcester.
