Toronto, ON – The CWHL held their annual Awards Show on Friday as part of the 2019 Clarkson Cup Weekend, at the Mattamy Athletic Centre. The awards, presented by the NHLPA, honour the outstanding achievements of players during the 2018/2019 regular season.
After an incredible 50-point season Marie-Philip Poulin was the star of the 2019 CWHL Awards Show, collecting 3 awards including the Angela James Bowl for her outstanding performance (23 G, 27 A). She was also recognized for her leadership and performance this year, winning the CWHL MVP as voted by the coaches and staff and the Jayna Hefford Trophy as voted by her peers. Toronto Maple Leafs President Brendan Shanahan and Juno Nominated artist Shawn Hook presented Poulin with the CWHL MVP Award while The Jayna Hefford Trophy was presented in partnership with the NHLPA by Karell Emard and Maria Dennis
NHL Alumni Glen Healy, Nik Antropov and Pat Flatley presented Calgary Inferno netminder Alex Rigsby with the Goaltender of the Year award after she put up an incredible season in her Rookie year with the CWHL (14-2-1). Rigsby finished the season with a 2.04 GAA and 0.916 save percentage. Les Canadiennes defenceman Erin Ambrose was awarded Defenceman of the Year by Cheryl Pounder and Tessa Bonhomme. Ambrose had a career season 24 points (6 G, 18 A) leading all defenceman in points.
The Thunder took home two prestigious awards on Friday starting with Victoria Bach’s win for Rookie of the Year. Bach led the way for rookies this season and finished 4th overall with 32 points (19 G, 13 A). Thunder Coach Jim Jackson won the Coach of the Year after he coached the reigning Clarkson Cup Champions through a tough mid-season and a successful run for the playoffs.
The CWHL honoured Mike Bartlett with the Humanitarian Award for his continuous support and dedication to the growth of women’s hockey. As a previous member of the board, Mike has continued to support the league in his position as Head of Community Affairs & Events with MLSE and is committed to continuing this relationship for years to come.

Tomorrow, the award winners, Les Canadiennes and the Calgary Inferno will be participating in community initiatives in the City of Toronto as part of the Clarkson Cup weekend. These initiatives are a great opportunity for the players to expand their footprint and give back to their host city.
