Les Canadiennes have traded defenceman Nachi Fujimoto to the Boston Blades for future considerations, General Manager Meg Hewings announced today.LES CANADIENNES TRADE NACHI FUJIMOTO TO BOSTON BLADES

Fujimoto, 25, was Montreal’s ninth round pick in the 2016 CWHL Draft, out of Sapporo International University. After making the trip from Japan for Selection Camp earlier this month, Fujimoto suited up for the team’s first pre-season game, against the McGill Martlets, last Friday.

“We were impressed by Nachi’s skill-set, including her quick feet, mobility, and toughness in the corner despite her smaller stature. This was a very difficult year to crack our defensive roster in Montreal, but she made a strong impression on our organization with her professionalism, determination, and dedication to the sport. We wish her all the best with the Boston Blades as she launches her CWHL career,” Hewings said.

The team also announced the release of young defenceman Elizabeth Tremblay, a native Quebecer who played most of the 2015-16 season with the Blades, and was released earlier this summer.

Training camp continues with four exhibition games remaining on the schedule (see below), in which the team’s rookies are expected to see increased roles.
