With 208 combined votes through CWHL polls via Twitter and thecwhl.com, Canadiennes de Montréal goaltender Marie-Soleil Deschênes has been named the ADT Goalie of the Week for the week ending Sunday, February 4.
This marks the first fan vote win for the Ile-Bizard, Que., native following her first career start this season.
The 60th pick overall in the 2017 CWHL draft, Deschênes made her first start with Les Canadiennes on the road in a Sunday afternoon showdown in Boston this past weekend. With the Montréal offence riding high, Deschênes showed confidence between the posts making 15 saves to record both her first career CWHL win and first career shutout.
Deschênes was drafted by Les Canadiennes following a stellar U SPORTS career with the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) Panthers, recording a goals-against average mark of 1.82 and save percentage of .939 through 18 games played in her final season (2016-17). Deschênes was named the UPEI female athlete of the year and an Atlantic University Sport (AUS) first team all-star in her final year as well.
