TORONTO (January 31, 2018) – The Canadian Women’s Hockey League (CWHL) is excited to announce they will be partnering with the Toronto Maple Leafs to bring the 2018 Clarkson Cup Final presented by Scotiabank to Ricoh Coliseum, home of the Toronto Marlies. Puck drop is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. (EST), with the game being nationally broadcast on Sportsnet.

“We are thrilled to be bringing the Clarkson Cup Final to Toronto this season,” stated CWHL Commissioner Brenda Andress. “Having previously worked with the Maple Leafs on our CWHL All-Star Game over the past three seasons, I know that we will once again deliver the kind of showcase both the community and these outstanding female athletes deserve.”

The Clarkson Cup weekend festivities will begin on Friday, March 23, with the 2017-2018 CWHL Awards Show, hosted at the Toronto Centre of the Arts, Lyric Theatre. The Awards Show will highlight achievements from the season with honours such as Most Valuable Player, Coach of the Year, the Jayna Hefford Award, and the Angela James Bowl. On Saturday, March 24, the CWHL will host a community day at various locations throughout the City of Toronto. The community day provides fans an opportunity to interact with CWHL players as they prepare for the Clarkson Cup Final the next day at Ricoh Coliseum. Following the Clarkson Cup Final on Sunday, March 25, the Toronto Marlies will host their Women’s Hockey Day game as they face off against the visiting Springfield Thunderbirds.

“The Maple Leafs are strong believers in the CWHL and proud supporters of the opportunity to bring the Clarkson Cup to Toronto hockey fans,” said Brendan Shanahan, President and Alternate Governor of the Toronto Maple Leafs. “Hockey is a game for everyone and these events give women’s hockey a great platform for the growth of the game and enjoyment for players and fans alike.”

This will mark the fifth Clarkson Cup Final to be held in the GTA; the first time in Toronto. More than 400,000 fans have watched CWHL events this past season on Sportsnet, and audiences have grown exponentially for the league over the past 11 seasons.
